Shopify Email is cheap and simple. Klaviyo is powerful and priced by your list. Most stores choosing between them really want to know one thing: when is Klaviyo worth paying for?
Recover abandoned carts on Shopify, starting free
EmailSync starts you with a 3-step cart recovery template you can fully edit in its flow builder. Each email shows the shopper's real cart, it stops when they buy, and you see the revenue each email brought back.

Pricing
Shopify Email's model is easy to predict: 10,000 free emails a month, then from $1 per 1,000. A store sending 30,000 emails a month pays for about 20,000 of them.
Klaviyo charges by active profiles. The free plan stops at 250 active profiles and 500 sends a month, and sending is paused if you go over until you upgrade. Paid prices rise with profile count, so use Klaviyo's calculator for your exact list size.

Automations and segmentation
This is Klaviyo's real advantage. It has flows with branching, predictive analytics and deep Shopify event data. Shopify Email covers the common flows from templates but with fewer controls.
When each one makes sense
- Choose Shopify Email if you mainly send newsletters and promotions and want the lowest cost and least setup.
- Choose Klaviyo if you have the budget, a marketer to run it, and you want SMS and advanced segments.
A third option: EmailSync
If the main thing you want from Klaviyo is cart recovery and clear revenue numbers, EmailSync, our app, sits between the two. One click adds a 3-step abandoned cart flow with each shopper's cart items, and you can edit it however you want in the flow builder, with waits, if/then conditions, open and click branches and tags. Flows can also start when a customer buys a specific product, so you can tag product buyers and email them as a group. It A/B tests emails and matches every paid order to the email behind it. What it does not have yet is SMS or predictive analytics.
| Plan | Price per month | Paid orders per month | Emails included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Up to 100 | 1,000 (hard cap) |
| Starter (shown as Pro on the App Store) | $19.95 | Up to 500 | 25,000 |
| Growth | $49.95 | Up to 2,000 | 75,000 |
| Scale | $99.95 | Unlimited | 200,000 |
On paid plans, emails past the included amount cost $1.75 per 1,000. There is no contact limit on any plan, so you are not charged for the size of your list.
It is new, has no reviews yet and has no SMS. More options are in our Klaviyo alternatives for Shopify and best Shopify email marketing apps roundups.
