Skool gets searched about twice as often as Whop, and many creators weigh the two. Most comparisons focus on fees. This one looks at something that matters just as much for a membership business: how each platform helps you keep members, and what role email plays.

Email on Skool
Skool keeps things simple. Admins can send a community post to all members by email with a toggle when posting. There is a limit: Skool's own interface says admins can only send a post via email once every 72 hours, to protect deliverability.
That works well for occasional announcements. What Skool does not offer natively is a full email marketing tool: no automated sequences triggered by member behavior, no segmenting by plan for different messages, and no designed newsletters. Creators who want that usually connect an outside tool through Zapier or similar.
Email on Whop
Whop sends system emails, such as receipts and failed payment notices, and gives you each member's email in the dashboard. You can message members through Whop DMs. But Whop is not an email marketing platform either. There is no built-in broadcast-and-sequence tool for your list.
The difference is what Whop exposes: a full API and webhooks for events like membership.activated, payment.succeeded and payment.failed. That makes it straightforward for email tools to react to what members actually do. See the Whop API for email automation.

Billing and failed payments
Involuntary churn, from expired or declined cards, is a big part of membership churn on any platform.
- Whop: a failed renewal goes past due, Whop emails the customer and retries over five days, then cancels. You choose whether members keep access while past due. Details in Whop failed payments and cancellations.
- Skool: handles billing through Skool Payments with its own reminders. Check Skool's help center for the current retry behavior.
On both, a personal email in your voice during the retry window helps. On Whop, a connected tool can send it automatically when the payment fails.

What actually keeps members
The platform matters less than the habits:
- A strong first week. Members who get a win early stay longer. Our 7-day welcome email sequence is a template.
- Reach the quiet ones. The people about to leave are not reading the feed. Email them.
- Catch failed payments fast. Most can be recovered in the first few days.
- Make leaving a conversation. Ask why, offer a pause, and run a win-back email flow later.
If you are on Whop
WhopMail handles all four. It syncs your members, triggers flows from 20+ Whop events, stops win-back emails when someone pays, and lets members keep or pause their membership from inside the email.
