Discord is a great place to run a community. It is a poor place to make sure anyone reads anything. Big servers mute notifications, announcement channels scroll past, and members who stop opening Discord stop seeing you completely. If your server is paid, that silent drift becomes cancelled memberships.
Email fixes the reach problem. Here is how to get emails for a paid Discord and what to do with them.
Why Discord alone is not enough
- Members control their own notifications. Discord lets anyone mute a whole server, suppress @everyone and role mentions, or only get pinged when mentioned directly. In busy servers, many do.
- Announcements compete with chat. A message posted at the wrong hour is buried.
- Inactive members are invisible. The people about to cancel are exactly the ones not reading.
- You do not own the audience. If your server is lost or banned, so is your way to reach members.
Getting emails from Discord members
Discord does not give you members' emails. You need to collect them where people pay or sign up.
Sell access through Whop. When you sell a Discord through Whop, buyers check out with their email, then link their Discord account to Whop and claim access to the server from the whop's page. You get the email at purchase and Whop manages the role. Members are also listed in your Whop dashboard, where you can export them.
For free servers, offer something worth an email: a resource pack, a recorded workshop or early access to events, collected on a simple landing page.

What to send members of a paid Discord
The welcome email. Many new members get lost between paying and joining the server. Your first email should walk them through linking Discord and claiming access, then point to the one channel to start in. This alone cuts support tickets.
A weekly digest. The best threads, wins and upcoming calls, for people who cannot keep up with the chat. Keep it short and send it on the same day each week.
Event reminders. A reminder the day before and an hour before a live call works better than a Discord ping.
Billing emails. When a renewal fails, Whop retries for five days before cancelling. A personal email in that window saves members who simply had a card expire. See Whop failed payments and cancellations.
A save email on cancel. Ask why, offer a pause, and point to what they have not tried yet.
Re-engage the quiet ones
Members who joined but stopped chatting still read email more often than you might think. A short, personal "here is what you missed" email with two or three highlights is enough. Do not shame them for being quiet.
Automate it
WhopMail connects to Whop, so every member of your Discord-access product is synced automatically. New members, payments, failed payments, cancellations and renewals can each start an email flow. If you also want to reach them inside Whop, WhopMail supports Whop-native DMs too.

One more lever
Our sister product OneClick Upsell adds order bumps and one-click upsells to Whop checkout, so a new Discord member can add a course or coaching call as they join.
